Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences

The Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Research (IAU) at the Geosciences faculty is part of the interdisciplinary profile areas "Sustainability & Biodiversity" and "Space, Time & Matter". Seven working groups conduct experimental, theoretical and modelling research on key issues of our time: Climate, weather and air quality.

Our vision is to understand the atmosphere in a changing climate from the molecular to the global scale and to bring these scientific findings into the middle of our society. We develop innovative approaches that help to overcome global challenges: with scientific excellence, practice-orientated teaching and a clear responsibility towards society and the environment.

In our B.Sc. Meteorology and M.Sc. Atmospheric and Climate Sciences degree programs, we train the next generation of atmospheric scientists and also participate in the M.Sc. Environmental Sciences and B.Sc. Physics (focus area "Atmosphere and Climate") programs. Our doctoral students benefit from the comprehensive support structures of the Collaborative Research Centre  and the participation in highly topical and exciting research.
