Type of Data Stored, Purpose, Legal Basis, and Deletion Periods
Handling of Personal Data
Personal data refers to information that allows the identification of a natural person (e.g., names, email addresses, student IDs, or telephone numbers). This also includes data related to preferences, hobbies, memberships, or information about websites visited.
Personal data is only collected, used, and disclosed by us if legally permitted or if the user has given consent.
The use of students' personal data for study purposes is primarily based on the current Hessian Higher Education Act and the current enrollment regulations of the state of Hesse and therefore refers to Article 6(1)(c) of the GDPR.
The personal data of ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ employees for personnel administration, teaching, research, and examination purposes is collected and processed based on the Hessian Higher Education Act, the state's enrollment regulations, collective agreements (TV-GU), as well as civil service and employment regulations.
Access Data/Server Log Files
When accessing pages on this web server, the following data is generally stored in server log files:
IP address
Date and time
Type of client browser
URL of the accessed page
Error messages, if applicable
Requesting provider, if applicable
This data is used solely to monitor functionality, security, and troubleshooting. The use is based on GDPR Article 6(1)(e) and §§ 3, 8–11 of the Hessian Electronic Administration Protection Act (HITSiG). All log files are automatically deleted after a maximum of 7 days. In the event of security incidents, data may be retained for up to 90 days (§14 HITSiG).
Contacting the University
When contacting members of ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ (e.g., via contact form or email), your information will be stored for the purpose of processing the inquiry and in case of follow-up questions. After the matter has been resolved or the legal obligation/service fulfilled, the data will be deleted unless retention is necessary to protect legitimate interests of ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Frankfurt or due to legal requirements (e.g., laws, regulations, university statutes).
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device (PC, smartphone, etc.) that save device-specific information. They improve website usability (e.g., saving login data). You can influence the use of cookies via your browser settings. Most browsers allow restriction or complete prevention of cookie storage. However, note that disabling cookies may limit functionality and ease of usage. Cookies are mandatory for login-protected pages, where they identify access rights and are deleted after the session ends.
Access-Protected Pages and User-Based Services
In addition to the data mentioned above, user names or identifiers are collected to control data access permissions. These are deleted or anonymized after 7 days unless retention is legally required or necessary to protect legitimate interests of ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Frankfurt or due to legal requirements (e.g., laws, regulations, university statutes).
For services not covered by these provisions, explicit consent is obtained. Deletion follows the retention periods defined in the processing activities directory. Legal basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(a).
Integration of Third-Party Services
Some pages of this website integrate third-party content (e.g., YouTube videos, Google Maps, RSS feeds, graphics). This requires these third-party providers to see your IP address, without which they would not be able to deliver their content. We strive to use content whose providers only use the IP address for delivery purposes. However, we have no control over any further use of your data (e.g., analytical purposes carried out by third-party providers).
Advertising Trackers
Some ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ pages use advertising banners in cooperation with VariFast GmbH and the Adition AG ad server. This requires the use of session or temporary cookies that serve to count visitors and limit ad delivery volume. Only technical, anonymized, and statistical data is collected. No personal data is recorded.
VariFast GmbH and Adition AG are contractually obligated to comply with all relevant data protection laws, including the German Telemedia Act and Federal Data Protection Act.
You can stop anonymous data collection by our ad partners by clicking the link below. This will replace the current cookie with an opt-out cookie that deletes previous data and blocks further collection. If the opt-out cookie is deleted, Adition can no longer determine that an opt-out took place. In this instance, the opt-out must be repeated.
Analytics Services
Our website uses Piwik/Matomo, a web analytics service. It uses “cookies" (text files) stored on your computer that help analyze your use of the website. Usage data generated by the cookie (including your truncated IP address) is sent to our server and used for analysis to improve the website. Your IP address is anonymized immediately. The data is not passed on to third parties. You can disable cookies via your browser settings, but this may limit website functionality.
If you do not agree with the storage and analysis of this data, you can opt out by clicking the link below. This will store an opt-out cookie in your browser to prevent data collection by Matomo.
