Oral BA/MA final examination

The final oral examination consists of a discussion based on your thesis, in which both your approach in the thesis and further theses resulting from it are discussed. The examination usually concludes your major studies and lasts 30 minutes. Please prepare a 5-7 minute presentation on your bachelor's or master's thesis, which should contain three elements:

  1. First, please briefly summarise the research question and the most important results. Also outline your research design: what evidence did you use to answer your research question?
  2. Secondly, comment on the points of criticism highlighted in the report or reports by suggesting possible solutions for these points.
  3. Thirdly, name two to three theses that are to be discussed in the further examination. These can be theses that you have developed in the conclusion of your thesis or further considerations that are thematically related to your thesis. Record the theses on a thesis paper, which you should send to me by email at least one week before the examination (as a PDF or Word document; see also the notes on formulating theses and hypotheses and on thesis papers). Remember to include your name and the date of the examination on the thesis paper. The examination usually takes place in my office (PEG 3G097). An assessor will also be present and will take minutes of the examination. Immediately after the examination, we will inform you of your grade and briefly explain the reasons for it.
