Research Topics

Our overarching goal is to improve the understanding and predictive skill of local weather and climate, with a particular focus on mountainous regions. We investigate key atmospheric processes including the boundary layer, turbulence, clouds, moist convection, and terrain-induced flows. Our research contributes to advancing weather and climate models, improving air pollution forecasts, understanding the distribution of trace gases such as COâ‚‚, supporting energy meteorology, and analyzing extreme weather events.


Instruments and Methods

Our work combines theoretical analysis, field observations, and high-resolution numerical modeling to advance process understanding and improve parameterizations. A central tool in our approach is large-eddy simulation (LES), which we use as a virtual laboratory for detailed process studies and to generate reference datasets for model evaluation and development.
