Consultation in the Faculties

Some faculties of Ƭ offer specialized consultation on finding a fitting internship. Please contact your faculty if you have to complete an obligatory internship for it to be credited.

When would you like to complete the internship?

  • You have the option of completing the internship during the semester break or as part of a practical semester (depending on the duration of the internship, you may be able to apply for a semester off).
  • It is generally recommended that you complete the internship from the third semester of your bachelor's degree or from the first semester of your master's degree.
  • You should consider how the internship can be integrated into your study plan in terms of time and content and, if necessary, seek advice from your department. Questions regarding recognition can also be clarified at this point.
  • There are no uniform guidelines for the duration of an internship. The duration depends on the time you have available and on the framework conditions specified in the study regulations (for compulsory internships).
  • If you wish to apply for financial support, the time requirements of the scholarship providers must be taken into account in your planning.

Where would you like to complete your internship?

  • When choosing a country, you should bear in mind that organizing an internship abroad is usually more complicated and expensive, as you will need to apply for a visa and/or work permit. In the EU, however, these requirements do not apply to EU citizens.
  • In terms of the field of the internship, in addition to the “classic” option of an internship in a company in the private sector, you can also complete internships in social institutions, cultural institutions, schools, universities (e.g., laboratory internships), or medical internships (PJ/clinical internship).

How do you organize an internship abroad?

There are various options available to you when searching for an internship abroad. You can organize and finance your internship

  • entirely on your own,
  • have it arranged for you,
  • have it (partially) financed through scholarship programs,
  • or have it arranged and financed within a structured internship program.

When doing an internship abroad, you should definitely plan for additional financial expenses based on the cost of living in the destination country and the running costs in your home country.

Depending on the country and internship project, advance planning can take up to a year. You should consider the following points when planning:

  • Organization of the internship: Contacting/applying to the internship provider or through an agency
  • Financing: if necessary, apply for funding programs or student loans
  • Language preparation: through language courses, language labs, tandems
  • Outside the EU: visa, work permit
  • Clarify insurance coverage
  • Find local accommodation
  • If necessary, clarify recognition of the internship (department/examination office)
