Studying at the Faculty of Educational Sciences

The Faculty of Educational Sciences offers teaching across various degree programs and provides students with valuable insights into key areas of educational research and practice. Teaching at the faculty is closely aligned with the academic tradition of integrating research and instruction, thus upholding the core principles of teaching and learning at ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ.
A central focus of the faculty’s academic programs is the engagement with current scientific perspectives and findings, the historical contextualization of educational thoughts, and a critical examination of methods for generating knowledge. At the same time, the faculty acknowledges education as a practice-oriented discipline, strongly committed to its practical relevance. This is reflected in the methodologically guided engagement with practice, case-based learning, and the critical reflection on practical approaches.

  • Inclusion, diversity, and heterogeneous life situations in education

Bachelor's Program in Educational Science
The Bachelor's program in Educational Science focuses on the theme of education across the lifespan. The program aims to explore the significance of educational processes in different stages of life – childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and aging – through both historical and contemporary perspectives, including topics such as digitalization, inclusion, diversity, and sustainability. Students are encouraged to develop a scientific understanding of education within these contexts.

The program can be studied as a major or minor subject.

The standard period of study is six semesters, and the program comprises 180 credit points (CP).
Master’s Program in Educational Science
The Master's program in Educational Science is a consecutive program building on the Bachelor’s degree in Educational Science. In addition to its strong research orientation, the program allows students to develop an individual academic profile. This process of reflective professionalization is supported by a portfolio completed alongside the coursework. The Master’s program at ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Frankfurt is based on a pluralistic and critical understanding of educational sciences. It strives to strike a balance between tradition and innovation, as well as between academic research and professional qualification.

In the winter semester 2024/2025, students were able to join the pilot project International Track as part of the Master's program. Currently, new enrollment in the pilot project is no longer possible.

Teacher Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences
At ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ, students can enroll in the following teacher education programs: L1 (Primary Education), L2 (Lower Secondary Education), L3 (Upper Secondary Education), and L5 (Special Needs Education).
The Faculty of Educational Sciences contributes to all teacher education programs by offering courses in educational theory, supervising student teaching placements, and providing dedicated teaching modules within the L1 and L5 programs.

The Faculty of Educational Sciences is involved in the following interdisciplinary degree programs:

Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Educational Sciences
The Faculty of Educational Sciences offers the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree for candidates with a relevant academic background. After successfully completing the formal doctoral process, candidates are awarded a doctoral title.

New to the Faculty? Every semester, we offer an orientation event for all new students in each degree program – what we like to call an "OV" (German: Orientierungsveranstaltung)!
