Information for Applicants

What do I get with the scholarship?

In the financial support program of the Deutschlandstipendium at Ƭ, you will receive €300 per month for a period of one year (1 October to 30 September) without repayment. €150 is provided by private sponsors (companies, foundations, alumni, other private individuals), the other €150 is provided by the federal government. The aim of the grant is to give you more time for your studies and commitment. The funding is paid out quarterly. The first payment is made in mid-November, the last in mid-August.

The ideational support program (Ideelles Förderprogramm) is a special feature of the Ƭ Deutschlandstipendium.

In addition to the financial support, the actual heart of the scholarship is the ideal support program, which aims to convey one thing above all: “Showing attitude". With our educational programs and events, we want to support the scholarship holders in their commitment, but also inspire them to break new ground and develop innovative ideas for social cohesion.

The work in small, interdisciplinary groups of scholarship holders offers space to deal with and critically discuss current issues from a wide variety of perspectives. In collaboration with volunteer mentors, ideas and concepts are then developed that are implemented in concrete projects and thus make a positive contribution to shaping the university, the region and our society in general.

Regular events such as workshops and lectures are also held, giving scholarship holders the opportunity to get to know outstanding personalities from the region and the city of Frankfurt, make important contacts and gain inspiration for their own careers. In addition, various formats are offered for personal development and the teaching of future skills. We have great confidence in you - take an active part in shaping our Citizens' University!

Scholarship holders of the Deutschlandstipendium have the opportunity to come into contact with private sponsors. This promotes the development of a network that includes exchanges with other students as well as with sponsors, mentors and speakers.

Application

Applications are only possible for the winter semester and must be submitted online via the digital application platform.

The application platform is only open during the application period.

Students of all nationalities and all disciplines who are enrolled at Ƭ can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium. In principle, any course of study is eligible. This includes, for example, a second or supplementary degree course, a Master's degree course or a part-time/dual degree course. Part-time students and prospective students who are waiting for admission can also apply for the Deutschlandstipendium. Doctoral students and students in the preparatory college are excluded from the funding.

  • Applicants must be enrolled at Goethe-University. You can also apply if you do not yet have a certificate of enrollment at the time of application, but have applied for a study place.
  • You must be within the standard period of study (the Corona semesters (SS 20, WS 20/21, SS 21, WS 21/22 are taken into account here).
  • You must have been supported by the Deutschlandstipendium at Ƭ for less than 24 months.

The Deutschlandstipendium is a merit-based scholarship. The main criterion is therefore academic performance and takes into account the academic achievements and progress made to date.

Their social or extracurricular commitment (e.g. voluntary work, social, societal, university policy or political commitment as well as participation in religious communities, associations or clubs) is included in the application.

The assessment also takes into account certain social factors such as your family background, employment and financial background, illnesses and impairments, the care of your own children and the care or loss of direct relatives.

According to § 3 StipG, the main criterion for awarding a scholarship is performance and talent. This is demonstrated by previous academic achievements and academic progress as follows:

Important: We require the VDP (preliminary examination documentation) from Uni-Assist as proof of grades for applicants from abroad!

a.  Students in their first semester apply with their university entrance qualification or, in the case of a second degree, with the grade of their first degree.

b. Students from the second semester in undergraduate degree programs, i.e. Bachelor, Staatsexamen, Magister and Diplom, apply with the current average grade (examples of the calculation can be found in the applicant portal if no average grade is shown on your transcript of records). To calculate the CP-weighted average grade, all grades (for major/minor subject combinations, only those of the major subject) are taken into account. For teacher training courses, only completed modules are included in the calculation. If you do not yet have any grades entered for the current semester, please use the grades from the previous semester (referring to the winter semester) or, if you are in the 2nd semester, your last highest educational qualification. Please always submit a current extract of your transcript of records with your application as proof. We no longer accept subsequently submitted grades in the application process, please note that we refer to the grades at the time of your application.

Teacher training students should use the following table to convert points into grades: https://www.tinygu.de/Lehramt

Law students convert their points into grades in accordance with the minor subject examination regulations: https://www.tinygu.de/jura

c. Master's students apply with the final grade of their Bachelor's degree program. If this is not yet available at the time of application, the grade with which the applicant was admitted to the Master's program is decisive. In the case of a second degree course, the grade of the previous Master's degree course will be used.

d. Students of medicine and dentistry before the first state examination apply with their university entrance qualification (up to and including the 5th semester). Students after the first state examination (from the 6th semester) apply with the grade of the first state examination.

The BAföG certificate should be from the semester of application or your last semester of study. If you are applying for the first semester and expect to receive BAföG, please upload a PDF file consisting of your BAföG application and the result of the online BAföG calculator. This does NOT include the “BAföG certificate” from the university. However, a BAföG certificate is not mandatory for the application.

As a rule, you do not need any further documents.

You will also answer questions about your biography and socio-demographic data. This information is voluntary, will only be used to select scholarship holders and will only be passed on to the departments in anonymized form.

 Selection procedure

The selection process is divided into two phases: The pre-selection and the jury selection. After the applications have been sorted by subject area, they are sorted according to the criteria of performance, commitment and personal circumstances using the information from the application platform. The best applications are then anonymously forwarded to a jury from the respective department, which once again evaluates the overall potential of the applicants and thus decides on the awarding of the scholarships.

The application form may not have been activated yet.

You are expected to receive notification in the course of November as to whether you have been awarded the Deutschlandstipendium and must then confirm your acceptance. Acceptances and rejections will be sent to your (student) e-mail address. Please also check your spam folder regularly.
